Sharon Mulfinger Gerber is a full-time freelance cellist and devoted mother of three. Sharon earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Cello Performance from Bob Jones University in Greenville, South Carolina and a Masters Diploma in Cello Performance from the Hochschule fur Musik “Hanns Eisler” in Berlin, Germany, where she studied with Professor Josef Schwab. She has studied, performed and taught in music festivals in France, England, Germany, Canada and throughout the United States. In addition, Sharon has won several competitions for her cello playing including the Southeastern Young Artist Competition and the Lawrence Foster National Cello Award. She also won several concerto competitions resulting in solo performances with orchestras in the southeastern United Sates. Sharon’s intensity of feeling, her technique, her knowledge of style and rich robust tone make her solo cello playing not just good, but superior.

In addition to performing, Sharon is an accomplished writer, arranger and recording artist. She has produced four CD’s featuring her original compositions and arrangements for cello and piano and has recently collaborated with artists Ryan O’Neal (Sleeping At Last), Rodrigo Rodriguez, and Imogen Heap. Her writing and playing display a strong musical imagination and a wide and sensitive personal style ranging from a captivating whimsy to serious, intense expression.

Sharon is passionate about the sound of the cello, particularly her own 180 year-old cello, “Murgatroid” which she inherited from her father. She enjoys creating vivid soundscapes with lush and vibrant layers of cellos and is looking forward to a series of such releases with her recent “Celloasis” project. Sharon’s incorporation of an electronic looper in her live performances allows her to create these celloscapes live and let her audience experience the magic of these spontaneous creations with her.
